The Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland Safety Camera Scheme launched the Speed Awareness Workshops in October 2004. The Workshops have been initiated to compliment the philosophy of the Safety Camera Scheme which consists of the 3 E's:
- Engineering
- Education
- Enforcement
The workshop comes under the Education strategy. Its aim is to change people's attitudes towards speeding, to make them more aware of their own responsibility for their actions and to develop a personal speed awareness strategy.
The course is an alternative to the fine and penalty points. Clients can elect to pay £60 and take the course instead of paying £60 and receiving the points.
The offer of attending a course is only made for low-level speeding offences. Those who are eligible will receive a booking form with their penalty offer from Leicestershire Constabulary.
